Target Audience

Legal and ethical issues

In my documentary there should not be many legal or ethical issues as my documentary is not really a sensitive subject. Some of the things which I will make sure of is permissions and rights ,making sure that I have modal release forms and permission to shoot on locations but also using clips or stock footage which might need permission. Within my documentary I will be touching on how women were treated differently at other times and the rules they had to follow this classed as exploitation of women and that they are not being treated equally I will back this up by explaining that this is not okay and something which should not of happened.

Some ethical and legal issues that I might run into with filming about the tobacco factory is getting permission to film with my nan this comes under modal release forms and also making sure that the images that I use are copyright free.

Interview workshop

Within this workshop we revisited so of the technique skills which are used within an interview for a documentary. Some of the things which we covered was the 3 point lighting system and how it works but also how it can effect different backgrounds and rooms , another thing is making sure the audio is a the correct point on camera so that the audio is not extremely high or too loud but to also make sure that the lapel mic is making any unnecessary noise. Other things we covered was the placement of the camera and making sure thats it in the correct place but also small detail which can be put into the background to also show a connection or to show off something.

This was the type of set that was going for the face to face set up like the picture above but was changed due the amount of room that i had on location and not having a black backdrop to be able to make it look like this so instead i used her living room with her chair in the front of the camera. In my set up I tried to use a 3 point lighting set up but wasn't able because i didn't have the correct equipment to achieve this but also the lighting and surroundings of the room where a bit limited to what i was able to do ,so in the end I used natural lighting ,lighting from lamps and lighting from and LED light which was able to light the room well and light my subject well.

Editing Process

The way i uploaded my files to my computer was by downloading them to my computer then i got them all together put them in logical order then colour coded the ones i wanted to use and colour coded the ones which didn't look the best or turn out the best i didn't do anything fancy within the files the only couple of things i did was name the most important shots which i would need.

Evaluation

In this production the process went very well as I was able to get all the pre-production paper work done on time and on the correct days i had set, one of the things which I would have improved on would spending a bit more time on research and finding b-roll footage as it was very hard to find footage for the topic I was covering, one of the ways I could improve on this skill would be by doing more research on topics I am covering before hand so that I could get extra knowledge going into it. Overall the filming went really well as I asked all the question I wanted and got all the footage I wanted as well but some of the things which didn't go the best was the lighting which was alright but could of been better as there was a cold pal look on the right side of her face which made her look more pal. Another thing was the setting on the camera as the file format was set to mp4 which made my picture not look the best but still worked alright. The ways I could improve these skills would be doing more camera and lighting workshops but also playing around with camera and lighting so that I can find the correct setting and good lighting for other projects. In post production I think this went really well as when I put all my footage in I had about 18 minutes worth which was a lot to cut down to 5 minutes, in this I had a lot of footage to cut as there was lots of points where she was saying "ummmm" which had to be cut and also repeating herself. The points I enjoyed the most when editing was adding in breaks on the b-roll footage so that you don't get a constant piece of talking but also adds affect to a part. Overall I think it went well and I am extremely happy with the out come of it the reason for this is because I done a workshop which helped me with my audio and my framing making my product look better but also taking inspiration from other documentary but if I was to do it again I would change different parts such as making sure the camera setting are correct to get the best quality footage possible and also making sure the lighting is not so pal such as a warmer light but I would also want to add in other camera angles into the mix so that its a bit more lively and not so plain with the one camera angle I would also do more research before hand so that i would have more b-roll and also more clips to work with.
