cdm 350 film editing
For this topic I am going to be editing a short horror film about a man called Sid who had died but the next day he wakes up to discover he is not alone and find out the truth of how he died.
For my offline edit this was the cut of my film where no lighting or transitions were used, I sort of consider this cut as a practice for the Online. As i watched this cut, I noticed they're were a few changes I needed to make. the sound design was recorded from a app i used and i downloaded it to and edited the sound to create a low slow creepy sound to create that suspense and tension throughout the film . The aesthetic we were going for was a short psychological horror with a theme of isolation.
evaluation
Overall as a group we worked really well making a horror film which was exactly how planned, however my cut of the film has room for improvement, and if I were to edit it again there are some changes I would make. For my Offline edit was mainly cutting everything together making sure every shot was where I wanted it be. The music I had in this edit was downloaded from an app known as Edge where you could get copyright free music. editing on premier pro I changed the speed and duration down so that the pitch sounded a lot lower and more formidable in the background.
What I didn't like about edit was the Climax, I felt it wasn't clear and hard for the audience to follow, in the future I would give a clear narrative of where the structure is going and how it change's throughout the whole film. However i preferred My Online edit because the use of colour grading made it better and cuts and transitions gave it more a nostalgic style of filming this is because i wanted my film to more unique, something original that has never been done before . I think scenes when Sid is is the kitchen are better because those cool tones of light brightening the shot up a little. with a cool temperature used in the the kitchen shots I think it does well to represent mystery and coldness giving a sense of unease and isolation. When changing the saturation and exposure also took away some of the effect that I was trying to create and rather than the film having hard light with shadows, adding that mysterious atmosphere, I felt in some scenes that it was to bright and didn't really set the mood that I was going for. Overall I'm not entirely disappointed with My edit and film, as it was my first time shooting a short before, with other topics and learning skills from cuts and transitions and colour grading, for next time I now know how to correct these errors and adjust them to make more effectiveness when editing for future topics. Overall in the future, I will make the structure of my story clearer to understand to the audience I'm happy with some of the lighting in this project and next the holes I need to fill for improvement
