cdm 350 film editing
For this topic I am going to be editing a short horror film about a man called Sid who had died but the next day he wakes up to discover he is not alone and find out the truth of how he died.
For my offline edit this was the cut of my film where no lighting or transitions were used, I sort of consider this cut as a practice for the Online. As i watched this cut, I noticed they're were a few changes I needed to make. the sound design was recorded from a app i used and i downloaded it to and edited the sound to create a low slow creepy sound to create that suspense and tension throughout the film . The aesthetic we were going for was a short psychological horror with a theme of isolation.
evaluation
Overall i think my online edit was great and exactly how we wanted it to plan out, I think our explanations the plot were clear and easy to follow and we kept the suspense at a nice place. If there is one thing i would change was my ending because i didn't realise until after that after the credits role up it fades to black for a lot longer that i expected and when Sid looks in the mirror where i created the fade i thought should of been a bit longer and then cut to the next scene where he is smoking. The lighting we created was planned in advanced and everybody knew what were doing, our best shot and my favourite shot is where Sid is killed in the bathroom. The lighting was perfect i would consider to be hard light with the room illuminated in red with shadows of the monster not quite realising what it is but the audience can see something strange. in conclusion the online of Sid gets scared has been an enlightening process that allowed me to exploring unique ways of filming such creating transitions, experimenting with sound, and creating an unsettling atmosphere to show the audience the themes of psychological tension
