The catalyst is the event that triggers the main conflict in the story. it disrupts the status established in the exposition and propels the protagonists into action. this moment is critical as it sets the story in motion, compelling characters to make certain decisions that will drive the plot forward, the purpose of this is to introduces the central conflict and create stakes for the chat, motivating the protagonist to pursue their goals.

 working title: Sid gets scared

in HBO's boardwalk empire Charles "lucky" Luciano is portrayed as a complex character whose journey reflects significant themes of ambition, power, and the evolution of organised crime. in the American prohibition. Lucky Luciano played by Vincent Piazza, is introduced as a young, street smart gangster who's keen understanding of the underworld. His Italian American heritage and early experiences in New York shape his worldview. He is initially seen as a subordinate figure in the mafia hierarchy but possesses ambitious aspirations.  As he interacts with established figures in the mafia Luciano becomes, increasingly aware of the inefficiencies and rigid structures within organised crime. By the end of the series Charlie's journey is now a rich narrative that explores the rise and fall of a powerful figure in the circle of organised crime, he becomes a target to law enforcement and  rival factions, in this end for Charlie it shows people just how rising high to power comes with significant risk's.

idea sketch for death scene

Character development is a crucial aspect of storytelling that involves the evolution  of a characters personality, beliefs, and motivations throughout a narrative. This process often begins with establishing a character initial traits, including their fears, desires and conflicts as the story progresses, characters face challenges and experiences that prompt them to reflect on their choices and growth leaving the audience with sense of closure whilst also highlighting the nuances of human nature.

shoot write up

EVALUATION

During my four days on set, i was actively involved in various aspects of the production, including lighting, filming, and makeup design. Here is a detailed shoot writeup highlighting my experience on set.

Day 1. We started focusing on lighting by blocking out windows and and setting up light to create ambiance and enhance the mood of our first scene wear Sid does his morning routine showing him make a depressing breakfast with a cup of tea, when you see the shot of the table it is left in a awful mess with crips packets on table and pills and scrunched up newspaper flat out,  we wanted to show that Sid is a bit of a loner and he does not  look after himself, he would rather isolated himself with the rest of society. we spent the entire day setting up by equipment like camera, tripods and lighting in the kitchen for the shoot.

Day 2. On this day we had started to change the look for max\Sid making his skin look pale and flaky like his skin does not get enough sunlight and adding bags under his eyes representing that he doesn't  get any sleep, with this description we had presented to the audience we could show them that he lives like a hermit, alone and does not go out at all.

Day 3 with most of our shots cover we were moving on to the bathtub scene where Sid was killed by the creature, i really liked the lighting in this scene because we wanted a radiant amount red light in the bathroom to represent those colours of blood, fear and violence. this is the scene where play the monster that murders Sid in the Bathroom, we used makeup to show the head being clubbed in with the cane that I carry as a weapon, with this scene we brushed a blood gel over the forehead of max that had dripped into his eyes for the shot. we made the entire room red with a set of aperture lights, and a tripod light making the scene low key lighting focusing on those shadows and tones.

4. With our last day on shoot we had finished that needed to be done, but we were still critical about some shots we had taken, so we decided to reshoot them as a group with the shots we now had as a group we now had a ending for our movie. overall i think we filmed and produced a successful short film presenting the themes of isolation, cabin fever, and limbo. We we really worked on things set and when things went wrong we took it on the chin and moved forward, thinking about problems later, i hope with this feature to one day been seen as a short horror in the genre of a psychological horror movie.

Overall of this unit i have really enjoyed making our group film "Sid Gets scared" a short and unique horror with twist or even can be considered a cliff-hanger. I thought the plot of the film effectively sets up a strong premise that piques curiosity. the initial reveal that Sid is a ghost invites the audience to ponder themes of isolation, life after death, and the nature of existence itself . Sid as a character is a well rounder character whose journey from isolation to deeper understanding of himself is compelling. this theme of isolation could even see a deeper meaning showing his loneliness throughout his character development, i think as a group this the exact traits we wanted to represent. the lighting we had chose in certain scenes of my cut felt flat and in some scenes did not match certain tones of light, for example when Sid watches his plate it is unfortunately dark and you cannot see the exposure on his face or certain elements around the room. in the future i wish to help convey the mood more effectively especially in scenes meant to evoke fear or introspection. the resolution of the film felt somewhat abrupt and left a few plot threads a little loose, a more through conclusion that ties back to the themes introduced earlier would provide a satisfying payoff for the audience. If i could look a areas for improvement i would be for pacing, while the film has a strong start, certain segments felt dragged on particularly in the middle, but next if i tightened the sequences it will keep a better momentum and keep the audience more engaged. However  "Sid gets scared" stand out  for its creative premise and strong character work, offering both humour and depth. while there are areas for improvement, as pacing and visual composition and character development, the film effectively explores profound themes of existence and isolation engaging manner. with some refinements. and perhaps one day can be seen as a memorable genre of horror.
