Film Editing

Video Essay
Moving on into our final project of Year one, I began with editing. Before being able to head into editing my horror film 'Copycat', I was tasked with creating a video essay. This video essay had to be upon different ways to edit shot transitions within film; Including what they looked like, what they actually mean, and also what they can make an audience assume or feel. I decided to add a few of my own creations of these transitions (helping with my explanations) instead of just clips using these, which came from famous movies.
After this, we moved onto editing our actual short horror films which we'd filmed. I am going to be editing a short horror film named "Copycat". This film is about a young girl staying in a...suspicious AirBnB; And isn't as alone as she thought. This task was individual, meaning there would be multiple different edits of our groups movie due to everyones different styles.
Offline Edit
We also had to make separate offline edits before the final one. This offline edit was just our horror movies but in rough. Being unpolished and just a basic scene-to-scene cut of our movie would help give us the feel for the flow of our final (online) edit, and would make adding details such as sound and colour grading slightly easier. Sound was allowed to be added to these offline edits if necessary, such as I added the sound of a door opening upstairs to show why Molly turned around.
Online Edit
After the offline edit was done, and I had a rough idea of the overall flow for my edit of the horror movie. Therefore, I was able to finally move on into my online and main edit for this film. The online edit is just a finalised and more clean version of the offline edit- With added sounds, adjusted colour, any extra effects (for example I used extra static lines and grain/noise) and also includes the title of the movie and credits. When all of this was completed, I was able to move onto my final write ups of the year; Behind the scenes and the Evaluation.
