Documentary Pitching
(CDM 304)
To start off this new project named Portrait Documentaries, which is the first project we are doing independently, I started by looking at a couple of short ones that I liked and would like to use for inspiration; As I chose some short documentaries which actually link to the options that I have for the pitching and production this project.
Elevator Pitch
We then moved on through into our elevator pitching, where I had to come with two different ideas and people that I could film and who I can make my portrait documentary on. My two ideas/people were my dad, Mark Whatley, who suffered from an extremely rare blood disorder named TTP, and the other being a family friend, Matthew Wing, who is a luthier (violin restorer). After my pitch was listened to and recorded, seen by the voice recording, I decided to go on and continue with my pitch of Matthew Wing for my main formal pitching.
Formal Pitch
Once I had my pitch preparation for my formal pitch all ready and finished, I then moved onto making my proper pitch slides which I was going to be showing one-to-one with a lecturer, as if it were a proper pitch; As well as filmed for evidence. These formal pitch slides were based off my pitch prep, but in a much briefer way, meaning I had more freedom in my explanation.
My Filmed Pitch
Documentary
Production
I then was given feedback from my 10 minute formal pitch, which I decided I should use to help me form my documentary pitching evaluation. This analysis from the lecturers of my pitch was helpful for my own analysing, as it meant that I could see other peoples opinions on the positives and negatives of my pitch; Instead of just my own.
