Advertising
In this unit, I've been given the task of researching various methods of advertising through media with the final result of producing my own advert for a business, here's how I did it.
Our first task for this project was to conduct market research on various adverts already produced by other well-known businesses.
We Were then given the task to produce an advert for a product presented to us.
In our case, a boomsatsuma t-shirt.
Evaluation:
As we were given the t-shirt to advertise, we decided to use satsumas to go with the theme of the brand, whilst also using its colours, orange and black to match it. This was my first ever edited video and first time using Adobe Premiere Pro.
As for what went well, we attempted to do match cuts using the satsumas. We had the idea of smashing a Satsuma orange to go with the “boom” of boomsatsuma but had used a green screen. However, this didn't work because there were too many shades of green due to the lighting. The film also wasn't in too much focus and had a low frame rate, which meant a poor-quality slow-motion video.
For next time, I will try to film higher quality shots and try to visualise the advert before filming, that way, I know what I want to film and can work around that rather than blindly filming random shots that would take up too much time.
Our next task was to go and find a business that'd be willing to have us students film an advert for them. Due to having connections through another member of our group, we were able to get in contact with Bristol Blue Glass.
After sending a few emails and having a date decided, we had completed our preproduction documents.
This is a list of the equipment we will be using
This is a list of the equipment we will be using. The volume column tells you how many of the item will be booked out. The rationale tells you what the item will be used for. We do this to be able to book out the right equipment for our shoot.
Risk Assesment.
Our risk assesment for this particular location varies a lot as furnaces and broken glass are involved so further care is needed when working. Completing this helped me to think more about the hazards that I wouldn't originally have.
Our location Reece is a document containing all of the necessary details about the location.
Our shot list helps us plan out the list of clips to shoot and other information like the type of shot to the location and 'characters' needed.
This would then make the story boarding more straight forward as we already had the list written out
This is a plan for what our day of filming would look like. This helps with time-management and structure.
Evaluation for my advert:
For my two adverts, I decided to go with a Christmas theme for my 30 second advert, and a regular 10 second social media advert displaying what the store had to offer.
What I didn't like about my social media advert was that I thought it lacked a story. It felt more like putting a bunch of clips together. This might be because it was such a short clip so I didn't have much time to include some of the clips that I would have wanted.
As for my 30 second advert, it felt too long, and there was too much time for me to try and tell a story through the advert so it felt like I was trying to add random clips to fill the gaps in between.
If I were to do this again, I would try to plan more of a story and develop a more detailed plan before production.
My editing skills for this unit project overall were quite lacking as it's my first time using premiere pro and I don't know my way around it that much. One issue that occurred while editing was when I had moved the premiere pro project onto a usb drive to work on later I wasn't aware that I had to also have the clips on my computer as well, so that slowed down my pace of editing. This meant that I then also had to copy all of the clips over as well in order to access my projects. I am happy I made this mistake in the beginning as I know I wont do it again next time.
In Between now and my next project, i am going to try and learn my way around premiere pro by watching the turtorials that adobe offers on their website on how to use various features and try to get better in editing videos in general so that way, it wouldn't take me as long and would also improve my skills.
