Our first workshop was hair application for film and TV. We began with trying to measure out an appropriate hair length to our actors face and then trimming the edges of the Crepe hair. Using spirit gum, we began to gently apply a layer of glue and then stuck the hair directly onwards by the flat hair edges we'd cut to length with scissors. However we found that with a small moustache, we needed more stubbly textures instead of glossy and flat. So we reapplied the hair at more of an angle rather than straight on.

After successfully making one side of the moustache, we trimmed the edges to shape the hair to fix it to the mouth and upper lip of our actor. We found pressing and holding the hair to the actors face helped stick the hair to the spirit gum well.

To remove spirit gum, we used spirit gum removal, and makeup wipes to remove the glue and stray hairs stuck to our actors face.

Straight
We started with the washing our actors face, and the blotting out the oil from the skin away with oil absorbent sheets. Then we moisturised the actors face and began with primer on their face to set the skin for make up. We then started with a really light concealer to match our actors face and began covering blemishes and impurities on their skin. This included under eyes to remove darker parts and any ache or break outs on the skin. Then to blend everything, we used a damp beauty blender with all the excess water squeezed out. This helps blend the concealer with the skin without making everything too wet and light on camera.
After concealer, we went in with contour under the jawline, on forehead and nose to sharpen out features.
We finalised with setting spray to remove fall out of the makeup, and then powdered down the make-up to remove any final gloss or oil on the face.

Straight and beauty make-up application - 19.03.2024
Beauty
We started with the washing our actors face, and the blotting out the oil from the skin away with oil absorbent sheets. Then we moisturised the actors face and began with primer on their face to set the skin for make up. We then started with a really light concealer to match our actors face and began covering blemishes and impurities on their skin. We then created the entire "straight make-up" look before starting on any beauty settings.
Once our straight make-up was set, we started with blush and colour into the actors cheeks to make Sally Bowles from Cabaret. We then went into to contour under the jawline. We then started on the elaborate eye makeup from the film, starting with a blue and green eyeshadow blend. Next we added some highlights to the corners of the eyes and cheekbones. Then we added the eyeliner on the waterline along with the outlines of the eyeshadow. Next was the mascara lipstick in a smaller heart shape on the lips. The lastly the beauty mark on the left cheek.

Old person makeup
We started with moisturising and priming the face so the skin didn't dry out. We next went over different concealer colours to find the right tone to match the skin colour, and blended with a brush and sponge.
Afterwards we went in with contour to bring out and darken more prominent wrinkles and creases in the face. This includes around the jaw, cheekbones, nose, mouth and forehead. We also darken the bags under the eyes to make them more prominent.
We then blended everything out with a beauty blender to smoothen out lines and make them deeper into the face.

With a highlighter and brush, we added small bits of highlight on the hairline on the head, and a little bit on the bridge of the nose. Then, with a small tipped brush, we added contour to all the natural creases and breaks within the face. We instructed the actor to scrunch up their face so we could find the naturally occurring wrinkles easier, and then traced them with a darker contour colour before then blending them out with a beauty blender.
We then did the same process with the same brush, but around the nose, lips and cheeks. Afterwards, we heavy powdered down the face so that everything set.

To finish the look, we added white paint on eyebrows and eyelashes. We also layered the lips with concealer to make them look dryer and highlighting older wrinkles.
