What I got from the pitch...

Why wouldn't you?: Documentary

From pitching my documentary on my friend Luka I have established a few main ideas for content that will make up the documentary. Luka is a Gender Fluid Circus performer, a quirky, great friend to many and a great lover of life. Sections of content I have planned to accompany the interview are some shots of Luka performing circus tricks (juggling, disc throwing, cigar boxes, acrobatics - etc), some fancy shots showing some of Lukas bold and colourful outfits perhaps using some colour LED lights for a bit more of a stylistic approach also some shots of the interesting things he has in his very maximalist room that kind of reflect his personality and give us a better understanding into what Luka is like as a person. Lastly providing the shooting dates aren't filled with overly horrible weather we will be taking the cameras into the woods past the two tunnels in Bath to get some nature shots and B-roll of Luka.

The interview will talk and ask questions about Lukas circus, style, identity and approach to life.

The theme and working title of the documentary is, "Why Wouldn't You?". With this I hope to inspire some conversation and ideas that will push a message about freedom and individuality. So the title in context says Why wouldn't you as in why wouldn't you join the circus, why wouldn't you dress differently why wouldn't you be open confident and honest about your identity. why not do anything if its what makes you happy, why do we stick so closely to the perceived normal just because it's what society says so and Why wouldn't we be ourselves so that we can be happy and actually embrace the possibilities of the life we have for the time we have it.

Now I knew what I was going to be creating my Documentary about and who it was on I began producing documents such as a site recce, which wasn't hard as id been to Lukas house many times before and a Risk Assessment to detail the risks present during the production. I also created a Kit list to understand what kit I needed for the shoot before I booked it out on Cheqrooms

Once I had completed these pre-production documents I talked to Luka and discussed when he would be free to shoot so that I could plan what days I would need to rent out equipment and what we could do on each day of the shoot

SHOOTING SCHEDULE:

Thursday 18th Jan - Photoshoot in Lukas room, Test lighting

Friday 19th Jan - Shoot Interview and Circus tricks at Lukas House

Saturday 20th Jan - Shoot B-roll in the woods (If not completed on Friday)

Once I had completed my pitch and gathered a decent understanding of what I planned my Documentary to be and what it was about I planned some questions on my phone that I would ask Luka in her interview, these served as the basis for our conversation but luckily given that Luka is quite interesting and we have been friends for a while it was pretty easy to continue the conversation and build a more detailed train of thought for the Documentary

I booked my kit out on Thursday, the last day of College before the weekend and brought it to Lukas  house for the duration of the shoot before returning it to college the following Monday. Seen here is my write up for everything that happened in the two day shoot.
